Necky Kayaks, a name synonymous with performance kayaks, is pleased to introduce the new Elias. An agile, playful and responsive touring kayak, the Elias takes its design cues from the brand’s popular women’s specific Eliza kayak, bringing a slightly longer and larger model to market that will appeal to a broad variety of paddlers.
Fifteen and a half feet long the Elias is extremely efficient for a kayak its size. Its relatively modest waterline translates into less effort for the paddler at normal cruising speeds, making the Elias significantly more efficient for everyday touring than other kayaks in its class.
“The shorter waterline that both the Elias and its predecessor the Eliza share means that less of the kayak’s hull is touching the water while you are paddling,” explains Sara Knies, Necky Kayaks Marketing Director. “While that may decrease the boat’s top-end speed a bit, the vast majority of paddlers don’t operate at maximum speed and the efficiencies that the Elias affords in terms of balance, maneuverability and reduced drag will make time spent on the water that much more fun and enjoyable over the long haul.”
A stable and comfortable craft, the Elias offers a performance fit cockpit that enables paddlers to ‘grip’ the boat for edging and lean turning while still maintaining an easy feel for the more casual paddler. Good primary stability and excellent secondary stability combine with the platform’s proven low and balanced windage design to give the Elias an assuring, confident ride in even the most challenging conditions.
Available in both polymer and composite models, the Elias is ideal for day touring and weekend excursions. Both polymer and composite versions include bow and stern hatches with bulkheads. Polymer models include a rudder with the new easily adjustable Support Track foot brace system and intuitive Quick Seal hatches, while composite Elias kayaks feature a retractable skeg for aid in tracking and bomber Valley hatches for water tight storage. Composite Elias kayaks will be available in either fiberglass or carbon models.
Key specs for the Elias include:
Weight: Poly: 54 lbs Fiberglass: 47 lbs Carbon: 43 lbs
MSRP: Poly: $1,549 Fiberglass: $2,649 Carbon: $4,200
Additional performance features of the Elias include comfortable, padded thigh braces, Necky touring seat with backband and a perimeter safety line. The polymer Necky Elias kayaks will be available beginning in August 2012 and the composite Necky Elias will be available in January 2013 through authorized Necky dealers.
