Necky Kayaks, a leader in the design and development of performance kayaks, today introduced the new Vector 13. Necky’s first sit-on-top kayak in nearly a decade, the Vector blends all the comfort and stability synonymous with sit-on-top kayaks with the great efficiency and performance of a touring kayak.
Central to the Vector 13’s performance is a unique touring style seat designed to deliver all day comfort. Featuring a sculpted, supportive back band and molded foam base, the Vector 13’s seat was engineered to reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve and prevent leg and foot fatigue associated with paddling longer distances. The Vector 13 also features an innovative nylon tank well cover with multiple adjustment points, similar to a backpack’s compression panel, which provides secure storage without sacrificing access.
“Owing to our performance heritage, the Vector 13 was inspired by the surf ski,” says Spike Gladwin, one of Necky Kayak’s principal designers. “In form and function we gave the Vector the best attributes of a traditional surf ski but we purposely added stability and increased maneuverability to the kayak to help it appeal to a broader audience.”
The Vector 13 boasts a longer waterline than most traditional sit-on-top kayaks resulting in an easy glide and superior tracking. When propelled forward the boats’ bow enters into the water quickly and smoothly, while a slightly flattened stern results in a shallow draft to help eliminate drag.
A true sea going kayak, the Vector 13 can be equipped with a rudder system for increased control in currents, wind and waves. The Vector is self-bailing for a dry, comfortable ride and offers a host of additional features including adjustable foot pedals, Quick Seal™ bow hatch featuring the Cross Lock™ buckle system, six-inch dry storage hatch, a mesh storage pouch and scupper plugs. “The Vector 13 has a fit and feel more similar to a touring kayak than a traditional sit-on-top boat,” adds Necky Kayaks Marketing Director Sara Knies. “It’s built for all day comfort and is capable of covering a lot of water smoothly, efficiently and quickly.”
The Vector 13 will be available through authorized Necky Kayaks dealers in August 2010.
Key specifications include:
Weight: 59 lbs
SRP: $899, $1,099 with rudder.
